Rescue crews confirm Ken Knight was found Saturday evening.

They aren't sure yet how he went missing.

Right now, Knight is at Lynchburg General Hospital being examined, but is said to be in good condition.

We're told he was in the Snowden Mountain area of Amherst County, that's about a mile and a half away from the Rockbridge County line.

Knight apparently set a fire trying to get help and attention.

An experienced hiker goes missing on the Appalachian Trail here in our area.

Dozens of people spent the day searching for the Michigan man.

41-year-old Ken Knight was last seen on Sunday.

He was following another group on the trail.

While Knight is legally blind investigators say he knows his way around the great outdoors.

He's hiked all over the U.S. and is an editor for the website Backpacking Light.

The command post is in Amherst County, not far from the Rockbridge County line.

Searchers hope with each step they take they find Ken Knight.

A group of six rescuers we followed are a few among dozens, with gear on their backs, map in hand, looking for clues along the Appalachian Trail.

“We've had some clues come in,” explained Park Ranger, Zeph Cunningham.

Like candy wrappers found along the trail, but whether it can be traced to Knight, is yet to be seen.

In fact, no real trace of the missing hiker has been found in the woods or reported to the command post.

”We've actually had multiple reports of people seeing people that they think match the description, up to this point we've gone to interview those folks and actually taking a picture there, they had turned out at this point not to be him,” Cunningham explained.

Knight last used his cell phone on Sunday when he updated his blog from the woods about his trip.

The phone is now off, but it could still answer some questions.

“What they can do is track it up to that point and we're still trying to get the investigators to determine if that cell phone was cut off like physically cut off or the battery went dead,” said Cunningham.

Right now, any information is useful.

Until they can narrow down where Knight might be these search teams will spread out over a mile radius looking and sniffing for the experienced hiker.

More search crews are coming in Friday night at 7:00.

Friday’s teams will be back in Saturday morning to pick the search back up.
