"This whole portion of the upstairs is devoted to our fitness and wellness program,” said Director of Roanoke County Parks and Rec Pete Haislip.
Haislip took us on a tour of what's going to be a one-of-a-kind rec center for southwest Virginia. The 10-thousand square foot wellness center will have top of the line workout equipment.
Located in north Roanoke County off of Wood Haven Road, Haislip says the best part about the Green Ridge Rec Center is the view.
"Most every open space you see up here are going to be windows which are going to let in a lot of natural light plus provide some pretty awesome views,” said Haislip.
There will also be an eighth of a mile indoor track, two gymnasiums, and a heated indoor pool.
"There's going to be a slide in this back corner and then some lap lanes and our exercise area right here," said Haislip.
Then there's 20-thousand square foot outdoor water park complete with fountains, two slides, and a lazy river. The total project costs the county 30 million dollars.
"You don't have to be a member to participate. You’ll be able to pay a daily admission to use the swimming pools both indoor and outdoor,” said Haislip.
Roanoke County is in the planning process to figure out how much they're going to charge and should have a price list next month. Haislip says the main goal is to make it affordable, hoping to draw in visitors in from all over southwest Virginia.
