Roanoke City Police say they're investigating a cab crash into new Fire Station #1 Monday night as a robbery case.

The driver of a Yellow Cab mini-van told police he picked up a customer in front of Roanoke Community Hospital around 8:00 p.m. Monday. The customer asked the cab driver to go to an alley between Elm Avenue and Franklin Road.

The driver told officers that after they arrived at the alley, the customer physically attacked the driver, and demanded money. The cab driver then told police that he began driving to try to escape the robber.

Police say the cab crashed into a brick wall, near double doors at the new Fire Station #1 at the corner of Elm Ave. and Franklin Rd. around 8:09 p.m. The crash hurt the cab driver, as well as the suspected robber.

Rescue crews took both men to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, and charges are pending.
