Bedford County supervisors vote to ask the state to lower the speed limit on secondary roads all over Virginia, from 55 to 45 miles per hour, unless otherwise posted.
The request will be made on the list of priorities the county will present to the General Assembly for consideration next session.
Supervisors hope to reduce the number of crashes on rural, curvy roads.
VDOT says about 85 percent of secondary road mileage in Bedford County does not have a posted speed limit.
