Emergency teams from Halifax County, the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM), and FEMA has completed a preliminary estimate of the damage caused by last week's flash flooding in the county and South Boston.

The damage estimates ad up to $135,000.

The inspection teams found the majority of the flood damage took place a the Halifax County Service Authority's Waste water Treatment Facility, on Maple Avenue in South Boston. Inspectors found damage to a device used to strain waste water before the cleaning process at the facility. According to a news release, the damage was due to the increased amount of large solid objects being filtered.

At the peak of the flood, the Authority said they saw an increase of 29 million gallons above average flows.

All operations at the plant are back to normal.

The inspection teams also estimate the Riverdale section suffered $37,000 in damages.
