Traffic Alert: Lexington expected to see heavy traffic Friday, Saturday

Friday and Saturday November 20-21 traffic will be extremely heavy in the City of Lexington. The area of greatest impact will be North Main Street from Jefferson Street to Campbell Lane. VMI will be having their annual Ring Figure ceremony on Friday afternoon and a dance on Friday night. On Saturday VMI has a football game with Old Dominion University and a large crowd is expected. Traffic will be heavy on North Main Street, Diamond Street, and Jefferson Street from Letcher Avenue to Washington Street.

If you need to travel through the City during these times please be patient and use caution. If at all possible please avoid these affected areas. Alternate routes to be used for travel north of Lexington, would be route 60 to the by-pass and then north on the by-pass or South Main Street to the by-pass and then north on the by-pass.

Traffic flow will increase during the morning on Saturday and continue until the conclusion of the game, which will be approximately 4:30-5:00.

There will be significant pedestrian traffic on North Main Street between Jefferson Street and Campbell Lane on both Friday and Saturday, please use extreme caution in the area.

Please follow all traffic singals and the directions of law enforcement officials who will be assisting in the area.
