Lynchburg, Va.Local Virginia State Police traded in their ticket books for turkey dinners Wednesday (Nov. 25, 2009) to help spread holiday cheer among area seniors. The troopers and supervisors from the State Police Area 20 Office in Lynchburg delivered 18 Thanksgiving dinners to 16 individuals in need of a warm, wholesome meal and heartfelt fellowship.

“We saw this as an opportunity to help give back to those in our community, especially at a time when so many are in need,” said Sgt. John Turner, Virginia State Police Area 20 Office. “Having the chance to meet each person and spend a few minutes visiting with them made this whole experience very rewarding for us, too.”

“We also thank our many partners who helped make this opportunity a reality,” Turner said.

The seniors were identified by the Central Virginia Area Agency on Aging and the dinners were provided by Golden Corral at a discounted rate. Funds to purchase the meals were donated by the following wrecker companies: Almond's Towing, Bee Line Transport, Brookneal Auto, Calvin Smith's Garage, College Park Automotive, Cox's Repair Shop, Glenn Trents, J.F. Deacon Garage, Lacks Automotive and Lacks Body Shop, Litchford's Garage, and Williamson's Body Shop.
