Some college students in our area spent the day helping at local shelters.
Virginia Tech students traveled to the Star City to lend a helping hand.
More than 90 students with the Newman Catholic Campus Ministry painted bathroom stalls at RAM House on Campbell Avenue while others spent the day cooking and serving lunch in the shelter's kitchen.
It's the group's big service project for the semester.
"It's a time for us to give back. One of the things we teach in our community is we practice our faith through the service that we do," said Theresa Hebert.
Other students helped at Roanoke Rescue Mission and the refugee resettlement program.
