Morgan Harrington, a Virginia Tech student, was reported missing over the weekend while she was in Charlottesville for a Metallica concert. Now her fellow Hokies want to find her.
Virginia Tech graduate student, Jordan Booker, logs onto Facebook and reads his status update. It begins like this.
"Morgan Harrington was last seen leaving the John Paul Jones Arena,” Booker read.
Booker’s profile picture doesn’t show his face. Instead you see a picture of Morgan on a “Missing-Please Help” online poster.
Booker has known the Harringtons for more than a decade and became good friends with Morgan’s brother when Booker moved to Roanoke County when he was in elementary school.
He tells us how he first learned Morgan was gone.
"I just randomly saw something on Facebook, and I was hoping it was just a misunderstanding or someone just trying to be funny when it really wasn't all that funny,” Booker said.
Now, Booker is using the same networking site to help find her.
"I’m just trying to pass along word to a friend to get that friend to pass it along. See if everyone can keep an eye out, whether they're in Charlottesville, Harrisonburg, Blacksburg, northern Virginia,” Booker said.
Facebook groups have been formed with her picture on the site to let people know she’s missing.
"Really get a good picture of her in their minds,” Booker explained.
Thousands have seen she’s missing through the Facebook site.
"Last I saw, there was over 8,000 people just really getting a lot of back and forth, saying they'll keep an eye open, saying 'Here are some places that definitely might be helpful to check out,’” Booker said.
He explains Morgan is an independent woman, but he’s still upset.
"I know she can take care of herself, but at the same time, I'm just really worried about what other influences there might be that could be keeping her from doing that,” he said.
Booker ends his Facebook status with these words.
"We just want her found safe."
WSLS sat down with Morgan's parents on Tuesday to hear what they have to say.
