Our political coverage is getting quite a few comments lately, including a few kudos for our Truth Tracker segments looking at the campaign ads.
One viewer emailed, “Thank you for showing both sides are stretching the truth and not just one side like a lot of the national channels are doing. The national channels have forgotten that they are suppose to be objective and report the truth and expose the facts (good and bad). They are the professional wrestling of the 21st century. Instead of reporting the facts, they are providing us news entertainment. Again, thank you.”
And another wrote, “I just wanted to say thank you to WSLS for your unbiased opinion during this election season and helping the voters to be able to develop our own political opinion by filtering through all the different ads.”
However, another viewer thought our coverage of the WSLS sponsored gubernatorial debate in Salem should have taken a back seat to missing Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington.
Shane wrote, “Forget about the crooks running for office and spend more time trying to encourage people to keep an eye out for this missing girl. She should be three quarters of your show tonight, not the opinion of a bunch of Playstation kids and what they thought of a debate. Please try something different."
WSLS responds: Shane, first our prayers are with the Harrington family. We have provided coverage of Morgan’s disappearance very night since it was first reporter, with extensive coverage including almost daily trips to Charlottesville.
You’re right, Tuesday night at 11 we led with the gubernatorial debate because it happened after the 6pm news, meaning it was fresh.
Additionally, it was the final debate of the campaign and had big implications for the entire viewing audience.
