Danville Police issue gas pump advisory

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The Danville Police Department has issued a warning to drivers to check the fuel nozzles before pumping gas at self-serve stations.

In a news release, the department said gas spills have been reported as a result of the gas nozzle being left locked open when it was hung back up on the fuel pump.

If not checked — and the lock released — the next customer choosing a fuel grade could activate the pump, and the fuel could start dispensing before the nozzle is put into the vehicle’s tank.

The resulting spilled fuel could be dangerous, causing fire, damage or personal injury, the news release stated.

The Danville Police Department is asking the public to check the position of the handle on the nozzle before selecting a fuel grade.
