The case against Jeffrey Young is now in the hands of the jury.
Young is accused of running down a grocery store clerk in Floyd County and then beating her with a stick. It happened in January of 2008.
The defense team presented a long history of Young's bouts with mental illness, including six commitments to mental hospitals over the past 10 years. Young is a diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic.
Prosecutors called two witnesses to the stand yesterday in hopes of proving that Young is not insane.
