White's long stay in jail, psychiatric report swayed magistrate's decision

A federal magistrate said in open court Roanoke Neo-Nazi Bill White's ten month stay in jail and psychiatric report swayed his opinion to grant White bond.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael Urbanski granted White a $25,000 secured bond during a near two hour hearing Thursday morning.

White's attorney, David Damico, presented evidence White's father would put up a piece of property on Patterson Avenue in order to pay the bond.

The prosecution team immediately moved to appeal Urbanski's decision.

A U.S. District Court judge will hear the appeal Tuesday (Sept. 15) at 10:30 AM.

If that judge agrees with Urbanski's ruling, White can be set free on bond.

If not, White will stay in jail.

White's trial date has also been set for December 9th.

Urbanski said White has been in jail for ten months without bond with no conviction on his record.

A federal criminal charge of soliciting a threat against a federal grand juror in Chicago was dismissed in July.

Prosecutors are also appealing that dismissal.

Urbanski also said the fact a government psychiatrist found White was no harm to himself, his family, or society also factored highly in his decision.

The psychiatrist interviewed White one time while he was in jail in Chicago last December.

The psychiatrist diagnosed White with histrionic narcissistic personality disorder--- finding White "lacked empathy for others."

White sat without expression for most of the hearing, answering "yes" to several questions from the government's top prosecutor.

After answering one question with a "yup," Damico quickly whispered in White's ear.

White answered "yes" to every following question.

If granted bond, Urbanski placed sixteen strict rules on White, where if one is violated, Urbanski warned White he could go back to jail.

The rules include White is not to use drugs or alcohol, not have any guns, stay away and have no access to the internet, and wear an ankle bracelet so authorities can monitor his every move.
