There are more hands to shake, hugs to give, and pictures to take for both Bob McDonnell and Creigh Deeds in their race for Virginia’s Governor. With 52 days left, the candidates say things may get a little more heated between the two of them.
"After Labor Day is when things start to heat up. People start paying more attention. Campaigning really ought to be about crystallizing the differences,” said Republican, Bob McDonnell.
You may hear more of the two making comparisons with each other.
"I'm for lower taxes. [Deeds} is for higher taxes,” said McDonnell.
Or you may hear candidates defending themselves.
Creigh Deeds responsed to what McDonnell said on Labor Day.
"The other guy got up and had nothing but bad things to say about me and the Governor,” Deeds said.
Some voters try not to listen to the arguments.
"I look past that. Listen to what they're really saying, opposed to what they're saying,” said voter Mark Seidel.
As for the heated debates and the jabs, Deeds said, "I don't know if we got more than normal this year or not. I think that we just went through a historic election last year and the fever is still high, and a lot of people are tired of politics.”
As Election Day gets closer, "There will be more friction between now and November third; it's inevitable,” said Deeds.
Bob McDonnell said, "We are going to have some differences, and I look forward, in a civil and dignified manner, to present those differences every chance I get."
Both candidates have until November 3rd, Election Day.
"I'm looking forward to that day,” said Seidel.
