43-year-old Lori Anne Jarvis is out of jail, but she's not out of the woods when it comes to her legal battles and teaching job with Radford City Schools.
"I had no reason to believe there was anything like this going on," said Radford City Superintendent Chuck Bishop.
"As you might image I was shocked to find out that one of our teachers had been charged with these two counts that she's been charged with and then you get into the administrative mode to develop a plan of action to deal with it," said Bishop.
According to a news release from the police department, Jarvis was arrested and charged earlier this month with "possession of marijuana and contributing to the deliquency of a minor. The arrest is the result of an incident at her residence on the evening of September 2nd involving the drug overdose of a juvenile. The juvenile was treated and released from Carilion New River Valley Medical Center. The investigation into this incident is ongoing."
Superintendent Bishop says Jarvis started working for the district in 2001 as an instructional aide.
In 2003, she became a teacher.
At the time of her arrest, Jarvis was a third grade special ed teacher at Belle Heth Elementary School.
She's now on administrative leave *without pay* until her legal issues are resolved.
"We have set up a fund, as we're required to do, in an escrow account and then that account earns interest," said Bishop. "If she is re-instated, she would be given that money with the interest."
Jarvis is scheduled to appear in court for a hearing later this month.
Superintendent Bishop says he moved around some teachers at Belle Heth to cover Jarvis' workload until the issue is resolved.
