Danville area unemployment drops slightly

»  Comments | Post a Comment

DANVILLE - The number of unemployed workers in the Danville metropolitan area fell by 199 in March, according to state data.

Danville metro area employment grew by 604 workers and the labor force grew by 405 workers from February to March, according to the Virginia Employment Commission. The agency released non-seasonally adjusted local unemployment rates on Wednesday.

While unemployment rates remain higher than in March last year, local unemployment rates fell from February to March, except for in Martinsville, where unemployment rose to 22 percent.

This compares to a Virginia unemployment rate of 7.6 percent, which is still better than the national unemployment rate of 10.2 percent.

March unemployment often shows improvement over February as businesses prepare for the tourist season and activity increases because of better weather, according to a VEC news release.
