One viewer says he's had enough of our news.
Jason, who's email address is rudeboy8304 wrote, “I have been watching your news for over two years now and I must say the so called coverage is just now opinionated and whiny! After living in big cities small towns even metropolitan areas I must say, this is the most unprofessional "news coverage" I have ever seen! Your morning news is just unbearable with Dawn's never ceasing, catty whining and the evening’s constant opinions and Facebook updates. I regretfully must boycott your station, and will urge everyone to do the same unless changes will be made for a "newsworthy" station, not an opinion and Facebook filled newscast. Sincerely, Jason.”
WSLS responds: Jason thanks for that. The morning newscast is designed to be more conversational and our evening newscasts, particularly the 7pm interactive newscast, are including more and more references to technology, whether it’s Facebook, Twitter, or our website. Having said all that, none of our newscasts branch off into opinion on the news. Sure, you might hear an occasional complaint about the heat or a foot of snow. Come on, we're human. But that never happens with hard news stories.
Another viewer says we missed the mark by ignoring the Dixie World Series Tournament in Christiansburg.
Jim Hensel of Dublin called to say, “I see nobody from our news media covering either of the games, and I just think that if it was bad news that somebody from our area would be there covering it. We have something positive happening in Christiansburg. We have teams all over from the southeast for a world series and we don't have any coverage.”
WSLS responds, Jim I checked with our Sports Director John Appicello and he says it's impossible to get to all of the Little League championship tournaments. There are simply too many in our area. That doesn't mean these games aren't important. In fact we could easily get scores on the air for these events if we know about them. In the future, please email or call the newsroom with games scores and we'll do our best to get the in a newscast and/or on our website.
