BLACKSBURG - More than seven hours after Virginia Tech police say they were looking for missing Corp of Cadet student, Alexander Tucker, he was found.
“Mr. Tucker was located a few miles from campus, in the country club area of Montgomery County, by a Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputy,” said Wendell Flinchum, Virginia Tech Police Chief.
Even though Tucker was last seen at eleven o’clock, Monday night, Flinchum says it is standard procedure to let the community know about this missing student.
Lieutenant Colonel William Stringer says this situation raised his concern, because it is uncommon.
“This is the first time we have had a cadet leave in the middle of the night, without anybody or any indication about what he may have been thinking or where he was going,” said Stringer.
After being found, Tucker was brought in for an interview. Police have not yet released why Tucker says he left campus. Lieutenant Colonel Stringer says the first week of training is tough, and the intensity may have been a factor.
“For most of these young people, it's the hardest thing they've had to do, thus far in their life. What we may have to do in the future, is perhaps evaluate how to keep a better eye on the hallways during the wee hours of the morning. Even with the limited resources we have, it is something we will have to evaluate,” said Stringer.
Police have been waiting on Tucker’s parents to arrive on campus to discuss the situation.
