BEDFORD CO. - A woman who was caught on U.S. 460 carrying a goat tied up in the trunk of her car in June must pay a $100 fine, a judge ruled this morning.
Fiona Ann Enderby, of Washington, D.C., pleaded guilty this morning to one count of animal cruelty.
Bedford County Sheriff's deputies found the goat after stopping Enderby at a DUI checkpoint.
Enderby said she was from the United Kingdom, where she said such a thing is normal, and she bought the goat from a farmer to give to four Kenyans living in Lynchburg, authorities.
A sheriff's deputy said the goat was panting heavily, and the trunk was 94 degrees after it had been open for 10 minutes.
The goat, aptly dubbed "Trunk," found a home at Johnson's Orchards in Bedford County.
A judge this morning sentenced Enderby to 10 days in jail but suspended all of them, and fined her $500 but suspended all but $100.
