Just after noon, Christiansburg was seeing a steady flow of snowflakes, making the roads wet as people tried to get where they were going. Just 9 miles further down I-81, the snow was even heavier. Signs were up all over the area, warning of the wintry weather.
The ground was already covered near the Radford exit just before 1 o'clock Saturday. Bruce Sellars stopped at the rest area, before continuing his journey to see the Hokies in Charlotte.
He was not ready to see snow so soon. "I expected a little bit of snow, but this is a little more than I bargained for. I've seen alot of snow plows out, so they seem to be doing a good job with that," said Sellars.
Just as he gets back on the road, headed south, a bus arrives back at Eastern Montgomery High School. The school's band and cheerleaders had to turn around before getting to the Mustangs state semifinal game in Clintwood. Cell phone video, taken on the trip to Clintwood, shows snow accumulating fast on the roads.
With temperatures dropping overnight, the roads could become more dangerous for travelers.
