Imagine an Oprah giveaway on Facebook. All you have to do is become a fan, comment on the posts, and you can win a gift.
"I do not think it was noble. I just think it was a fun way to give,"says Kim Weitkamp.
For the last 12 days Kim has listed her favorite things, including metro mint water and Miche handbags, and each day she selected one person's comment to wint hat gift. One particular giveaway touched kims heart. It was the day she gave away Acorn slippers and realized after that person was undergoing treatment for leukemia.
"That was the day I realized this is more than me having fun," says Weitkamp.
But Kim took it to a whole new level.
"I thought the best thing to give away would be to allow everyone to give,"says Weitkamp.
On the 12th day, Kim's favorite thing wasn't a product. Instead it was Feeding America which is an organization that had a local chapter here in Roanoke. And the key to this gift was getting people to watch the video and raise money to donate.
For every view or comment on Facebook or Youtube, she will donate 25 cents up to 1,000 views. And until today, Feeding America had no idea she was doing this.
"I am super excited," says Jeremy Butterfield.
Jeremy has worked with Kim several times and he says the special thing about this gift isn't the donation, it was who helped Kim.
"I love the fact it is creative like that because this is so Kim. That is awesome, that is just great," says Butterfield.
And for Kim, she learned that by one person doing a good deed, it reaches further than we could imagine.
