Workers in the Haley Toyota garage in Roanoke are busy fixing faulty gas pedals. The snow outside, didn't stop customers from bringing their recalled vehicles in.
"Everybody's response has been very positive. We've haven't had anybody screaming, yelling, hollering. Just everybody has been accepting to it and very happy that we've been able to do it,” said Service Manager Hoyt Parris.
Parris says they plan to repair 20 to 30 pedals Tuesday. A mechanic refers to the manual on how correct the pedal.
"We take the pedal off. There is a measurement we have to do as far as getting a thickness measurement. Then we install a shim and once the shim's installed, we put the pedal in the vehicle,” said Parris.
Then they hook it up to this laptop to verify that all the correct repairs have been made.
The entire process only takes about an hour. Parris says everyone who gets their recalled pedal repaired will receive a free car wash and a 20-dollar gift card towards future service. He says it's just a small gesture for the inconvenience.
"We're meeting them with open hearts, just bringing them in and thanking them for being patient, getting them in here to get it fixed,” said Parris.
They've got a list of about two hundred people who need the foot pedal fix. Parris says they're goal is to regain customers' confidence.
"We want to let our customers know that all these vehicles are going to be fixed and they can trust their car. Our own families drive these cars and we're going to fix our own families cars just like we are theirs,” said Parris.
He says their technicians will keep tweaking away at the gas pedals until each affected customer has been taken care of in the Roanoke Valley.
To fix the pedal problem as quickly as possible, Haley Toyota has extended its service hours until 8:30 P.M. starting Wednesday.
