The Fire Marshal says smoking materials in a mattress sparked the flames.
The fire began in the basement, which then spread to the other levels of the home.
The victim was taken to the UVA Medical Center, where we're told he is in critical but stable condition.
The Fire Marshal estimates a total of $65,000 to $70,000 worth of damages.

Roanoke County Fire and Rescue just sent out an update to the house fire on Carr Rouse Road.
The Fire Marshal says the fire began in the basement of the home, and he is still trying to figure out what caused it. The house sustained heavy fire, smoke, and water damage. It took firefighters an hour and a half to get the fire under control.
Fire investigators now say a family of three lived in the home: 2 Adults and their adult son. The couple was not home, but the son was. Rescue cews took the son to hospital for significant burns to his hands and face.
Also, firefighters say three dogs and a cat died in the fire.

ROANOKE CO. - Rescue crews took one person to the hospital, after a fire at a home in Roanoke County late Wednesday morning.
Roanoke County Fire and Rescue says they received a call from a neighbor that a home in the 4200 block of Carr Rouse Road was on fire around 11:10 a.m. When firefighters arrived, they found a single-story brick house on fire with heavy smoke and flames coming from the basement.
Firefighters from Mount Pleasant, Clearbrook, Back Creek, and vinton are working to put out the fire, but the weather and icy conditions are making their work more difficult. Firefighters say that part of Carr Rouse Road is extremely icy, and the ice is increasing with the water being used to fight the fire.
