People in Buchanan still can't drink the water

»  Comments | Post a Comment

After nine months, people living in Buchanan still can't drink the water that comes from their sinks.

People have been boiling water or using bottled water, since a problem was discovered with a well in April. In May, Mayor Tom Middlecamp told WSLS a new filtration system would be up and running in six months.

Middlecamp told us Friday that those plans were for a temporary facility. He says the health department would not sign off on that plan. The town now plans to break ground on a permanent facility on January 25. Middlecamp says it will take about 150 days from that date to get the filtration system up and running. The building will be completed in about 210 days. The new facility will be located along Little Mountain Road.

Nine pallets of bottled water from a Roanoke food bank arrived in Buchanan Friday. That's about 1,700 gallons. They previously collected 10,000 gallons and that water ran out in about four months.
