Millions of dollars to expand hi-speed internet access is coming to Alleghany County.
Senator Jim Webb (D) says the Departmet of Agriculutre will give more than $16 million to install broadband infrastructure in homes, businesses, and community institutions throughout the county. The money is split between an $8 million grant and an $8 million loan, through the economic stimulus act.
NTELOS will complete the installation of the hi-speed internet projects.
“In order for Virginia to compete in the global economy, it is imperative that we invest in the Commonwealth's technology infrastructure, including high-speed Internet,” said Senator Webb in a news release. “This $16 million investment is essential to attract new businesses and spur economic development in Alleghany County,” Webb added.
