HENRY CO. - The Henry County Sheriff's Office is warning people in the area to be on the lookout for a couple of thieves.
Investigators say at least three people in the County, and at least one person in Martinsville have had items stolen from them.
The scheme involves a man and woman team. Deputies say the woman distracts a home owner, while the man searches for items worth stealing inside the home.
Officers tell us two incidents involved the duo claiming they do tree work, and choosing victims who had trees growing near power lines. Deputies say the woman took the home owner outside, claiming to give an estimate, then the man went inside the home.
Officers say the duo stole a small safe with some CDs and other valuables inside from one home in Henry Co. In a second case, the duo stole a diamond necklace, gold baby's ring, and 20 gold half-dollars from a home in Martinsville.
In a third case, investigators believe the duo both went inside the home in the County on Stultz Road, the woman chatted up the home owner while the man disappeared. When the man re-appeared, he claimed that the homeowner may need from roof work, and then told his companion that they needed to go. The victim told investigators that she noticed things in her bedroom had been moved, and found she was missing a cluster diamond ring, two watches with diamonds on them, and some "costume jewelry."
In a fourth case, investigators say the duo went to a home on Daniels Creek Road in the County, claiming to be looking for leaking water lines, and needing to check his property for leaks. Again, the woman occupied the victim while the man went inside the home. The man later found he was missing credit cards in the name of "Reuben Stone."
Investigators believe the duo targeted the victims because of their age.
Deputies say the victims describe the duo in each case as:
--White man
--Scruffy beard
--In his 40s
--About 5 ft. 9 in. tall
--Weighing about 175 lbs.
--Wore a baseball cap
--White woman
--Short or pulled back hair
--In her 30s
--About 5 ft. 6 in. tall
--Weighing about 130-135 lbs.
The investigation also found a young teenager was seen in a vehicle in several of these locations.
The victims claim the duo drive a dark colored, newer model pick-up truck. At least two victims say they saw a red tarp covering something in the bed of the truck.
