ROCKY MOUNT - Rocky Mount firefighters revisited the scene of the crash that claimed the lives of fellow brothers Danny Altice and Posey Dillon.
They placed large flower arrangement on the side of the road. Reading the ribbon, "We love you Chief and Uncle Danny", they remembered their friends.
Back at the fire station, large fans are brought in to help cool the fire truck bays where the visitation will take place Thursday.
Police Chief David Cundiff says police and EMS departments from around the region will help him manage the influx of traffic.
Chief Cundiff tells me they're expecting so many people for the visitation here at the fire department that they will close Main Street down, but will allow cars through who are going to the wake.
For parking he says visitors should go to nearby lots like the Rocky Mount Church of God, the Goodwill, the YMCA, and the grassy lot across the street.
"I think for the visitation will probably be a couple thousand. We were preparing for four thousand plus for the funeral services,” said Cundiff.
This tragedy has gotten national attention as well. He says they've also been contacted by fire departments in Baltimore, Chicago, Boston and even New York City. They'll be bringing fire trucks to participate in the processionals.
"When something like this happens, it shows you the magnitude of what their career has been spent and their live have been spent doing,” said Cundiff.
Back at the crash scene, with heavy hearts the firemen gather themselves and get back to work to get everything ready for what will be a difficult couple of days.
