New wig store opens in Roanoke for women with cancer

ROANOKE - Hair loss can be a difficult thing for women to deal with when they have cancer.

A new store in Roanoke is hoping to make the experience a little easier.

Today, the wig boutique called "A Special Place" held its grand opening.

The store sells different wigs for women going through chemotherapy.

Some of the pieces are machined made, while others are made by hand.

The owner says the wigs are really comfortable and cool ...even in the summer.

Another store called "Second to Nature" is also in the same building and sells bathing suits and bras.

"They have a pocket and in the pocket it will hold a prostheses," said owner Rebecca Whitehill. "When ladies have their breast removed due to cancer they can come in here and fill more like a woman."

The store opened last month.

The owner says, so far, she's had about 20 customers.
