The news that Tracie Nininger and Jeffery Dupree were once again appealing their sentences for a drunk driving accident that took the life of construction worker Richard Slone, generated a lot of comments from you.
Brenda Wagner of Radford called to say:
"If were these people who killed Richard I would not be able to hold my head up. I'd be so ashamed. He was a Vietnam Vet. He was partially disabled, and he fought even for these slimeballs, and they don't want to pull time for killing this man. It is a shame."
We also heard this:
"Can you just imagine the scenario had that been two construction workers out drinking and drag-racing down the road, and hit two highfalutin people like those two people are, the two drunks that hit the construction worker. If the shoe would have been on the other foot, can you imagine the two construction workers would still be underneath the jail. It just shows what money can do."
And Melanie Brown called with this:
"I am really sick and tired of hearing about it. We preach and preach about our young people drinking, don't drink, don't drive. We see the commercials, and then we have two adults that are literally getting away, I think in my opinion, getting away with something that they did. Clearly the video that you guys showed what was happening to them, what they were doing. I think the two adults should be responsible and should punished for what they did."
Meanwhile, Charles Dowdy called in with a suggestion for our 7 p.m. newscast:
"You need to make it a little bit larger and slow it down a little bit. You can't keep up with what's going on if you're trying to look at what's going on in the background and read the scroll bar at the same time."
WSLS responds. Charles thanks for the suggestion, and we hear you that the type can be a little small for some viewers. It's a delicate balance for our managers and producers, wanting to include as much information as possible without making it so large that it's distracting. Thanks for your feedback. It's just the kind of information we need to know. And if anything can be changed in a positive way that works for the majority of our viewers, it will be.
