There's a new face in the race for the 6th Congressional District.
Jeff Vanke announced on Thursday afternoon that he will run this year as an independent.
Vanke joins libertarian candidate Stuart Bain in challenging republican incumbent Bob Goodlatte.
Vanke currently works as a budget consultant and created his own financial plan to balance the federal budget.
He hopes this new plan will appeal to voters in southwest Virginia.
"The burden is on me to let people know what I stand for as an independent," said Vanke about his campaign. "My big challenge and my tactic is to use the young volunteers that I'm getting."
Vanke collected more than 1,800 signatures to get on this November's ballot.
