ROANOKE - Two fire stations that have been second homes to Roanoke City firefighters will soon close, but not without a proper send off.
Open houses were held at Roanoke’s Fire Station 9 and Old Station 5 Saturday afternoon.
Retirees, firefighters and their families came out to get a last look inside before the stations close their doors.
One retired firefighter couldn't remember exactly how old he was in a photo taken sometime in the 60s.
Another reminisced about the years he spent as captain at Old Station 5.
"For 15 years it was a big part of my life. Just want to come, see it again. See the guys that are here. See the changes,” explained Marvin Huddleston.
Roanoke Fire-EMS will move into the new station 5 on Orange Avenue Tuesday.
A grand opening will be held June 28th.
