ROANOKE - Rueben Williams made an impression on his art teacher, Jimmy Deck, the first day of class at William Fleming High School.
"He introduced himself to me saying he was probably the best art student I had ever had, and he was right. He was one of the best," said Deck.
Rueben's talent was evident in his art. After graduation he studied at Parsons in New York City. "He was friendly and polite and seemed in a lot of ways much older than his years," said Deck.
Tuesday afternoon, at 27-years-old, Rueben Williams was killed after a shift at the Home Shopping Network in Roanoke County. His bicycle collided with a tractor trailer on Route 460.
"As a teacher for 28 years I have seen my share of tragedies, but I expected to see Rueben as an adult in great places because he definitely had the talent and drive to do it," said Deck. " Rueben was a great guy with a lot of talent and heart and I will miss him."
