Crash kills bicyclist on Route 460

BOTETOURT CO. - State Police have identified the man killed when a bicycle crashed into a tractor trailer late Tuesday afternoon on Route 460.

Sergeant Robert Carpentieri says 27-year-old Rueben Denard Williams was not wearing a helmet in the crash.

A State Police accident reconstruction team is back out on the scene, investigating the crash.

11:23 p.m.

BOTETOURT CO. - State Police say investigators cannot find the family of the person killed in the crash, so they are not releasing the name of the victim right now.

The crash happened around 4:45 p.m. on the Botetourt County side of Route 460 near the Roanoke County line.

Troopers say the bicycle rider was going south on Route 1400, ran a stop sign, and hit the tractor trailer.

Investigators are not sure if the snow was a factor in the crash. It is still under investigation.

ROANOKE CO. - Police say a bicycle rider is dead, after a crash on Route 460.

Officers tell us a tractor trailer and the bicycle rider hit near the Roanoke County and Botetourt County line.

The westbound lanes of Rt. 460 are closed. Police and VDOT crews are working to make one eastbound lane usable for westbound traffic.
