ROANOKE - Some parents and students are concerned about the future of the Roanoke Valley Governor's School.
Although there are no plans to close the school, given the state of school budgets, there could be changes in the school's future.
The Governor's school currently has 274 students from 7 different school districts. Roanoke City and Roanoke County school systems combine for well over half of those, meaning the future of the Governor's School could be in their hands.
That's why some are taking there concerns to the Roanoke County School Board.
"We want them to know the Governor's school is an excellent opportunity and we feel blessed to be there and have the opportunity. We want new students to have them as well," says Northside Sophomore Emily Campbell.
A spokeswoman for Roanoke City Schools tells 10 On Your Side, there has been no discussion about withdrawing any students from the Governor's School program for the 2010-2011 school year.
As for Roanoke County, school leaders are still working on budget issues, but their spokesman says many on the School Board have indicated support for keeping their students at the school.
