GRAYSON CO. - The Route 94 bridge over the New River in Grayson County is being closed this afternoon for emergency repairs.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) noticed a problem area on the bridge and upon further inspection determined repairs need to be made.

Motorists are advised to use caution in the area and pay close attention to signs leading traffic around the work zone. The bridge will be closed for several weeks due to the repairs.

Motorists and trucks can detour around the bridge by using Routes 94 and 274. Local traffic wanting to travel from Fries to Galax can utilize Routes 606 and 721 across the low-water bridge to Glendale Avenue.

The Route 94 Carrico Bridge is a truss bridge, built in 1927. The bridge currently carries approximately 1,200 vehicles per day.
