You have probably seen them already.
"70 is fast enough", says Charlie Nassau.
Nassua says changing the speed limit on I-81 to 70 is great because people do not have to constantly watch for changing speed limits and won't break the law by speeding.
"Most of the traffic is running that speed limit", says Nassau.
A map provided by VDot shows in blue where the speed limits will change to 70, and in red where the speed limit will stay the same. VDot has already changed the speed limits to the north of Roanoke, where to the south of Roanoke, people will not see those speed limits change till right around Thanksgiving. But a small red area in Roanoke will remain at 60.
"It is one of the most dangerous sections of 81", says Joe Scoville.
Scoville agrees with raising the speed limit but is glad to see they will keep that small section at 60. The only thing he is critical of is enforcement.
"They just need to enforce the 70 mph better than they enforced the 65 mph", says Scoville.
And people I talked to are not concerned about increased accidents. They are just glad to see the change.
VDot said they did conduct studies and tests to see if it was in fact safe to raise the speed limit.
