Lace up your running shoes and burn off some calories before you eat the turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie.
The fifth annual drumstick dash takes place in downtown Roanoke.
If you haven't registered yet you can still do that just before the race from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. Thanksgiving morning.
Then, at 9 a.m., runners, walkers and some dogs as well take to the streets for the 5K event.
Last year more than 7,500 ran or walked the 3.1 mile course which brought in over $150,000 for the Rescue Mission of Roanoke.
This year, about 10,000 will take part with nearly a quarter of a million dollars expected to be raised.
You don't have to be a serious runner to join the fun, there's something for everyone. Race organizer Lee Clark says, “this is the kind of event that anybody can take part in. For those first time runners who want to come out and be a part of this, it's an excellent event. It's also something you can do with your entire family. "
Looking at the forecast for the event, mostly cloudy conditions are in the forecast.
Chilly temperatures will be around as well.
As last minute registration kicks off at 7 a.m. temperatures will be at 38. As the race begins at 9 a.m. temperatures will warm up to 43 and continue to rise as to 48 by 11 a.m.
