ROANOKE - Two months left and counting until the big November election.
As the election nears, candidates are hot on the campaign trail and trying to get their message to voters.
Thursday night, Republican Morgan Griffith took his message to the Roanoke Tea Party.
He's running against democratic incumbent Rick Boucher who's held the 9th district representative seat for almost three decades.
The Tea Party put Griffith in the hot seat and asked several questions.
Many of them focused on illegal immigration.
"I think we need a real fence," said Griffith. "We need to model it along the lines Israelis built. It's not going to be cheap, but I think it's one of the things the federal government should be doing to protect our borders."
Meanwhile, President Chip Tarbutton says the Roanoke Tea Party is not endorsing any candidates for federal positions, but says Griffith did a good job fielding questions from the audience. "So far what he said tonight was good, but the proof really is in whether or not when he goes to Washington, if he wins the election, whether or not he follows through on that. Politicians are good at making promises, but they're not as good at keeping them."
Aside from getting more suporters, Griffith says he also attended the meeting to hear about issues that concern Roanoke Tea Party members.
