Radford University introduces a new Doctorate of Nursing Practice for the school of nursing. The program is unique in that it will follow an online distance learning format.
“They are going to be doing this on their own, at their homes, at their offices, at times that work for them,” said Kimberly Carter, the Director of Nursing.
Carter says the program is the only of its kind in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and will also help in t he shortage of medical providers.
"As a nurse and as a parent, it means we are going to have the best patient care available, as a nurse it means our colleagues are going to be skilled, and provide the best practice possible,” said Carter.
Rebecca Biersbach graduated with a nursing degree from Radford University in 2007. She says it’s exciting to be part of such a unique program.
“I love my job. I love the caring aspect. I love patient advocacy, but it's time to move on."
She joins 32 students in the program’s inaugural class.
This program makes the third doctorate program at the university.
