The Roanoke County-Salem Jail is now using a video system for visitation.
According to a news release from Sheriff' Mike Winston, the system went into effect August 27th, and cost $161,193. Sheriff Winston says money obtained from grants paid for the video system.
The Sheriff's Office believes the system will enhance the safety and efficiency of jail visitation operations, thanks to less movement of inmates inside the jail.
Visitors will still need to show a valid ID when visiting.
