The Danville Fire Marshal's office is investigating a fire that destroyed the clubhouse at Ray's Creek Golf Club early this morning.
Firefighters started getting the first of many 911 calls around 2 a.m., according to firefighters at the scene.
Several witnesses living nearby told 10 On Your Side they heard at least one explosion.
The golf course sits near the site of the historic Dan River Mill.
The Danville city fire marshal told us it may take two to three days to determine the origin and cause of the fire--- that's if it can be determined.
Some fires get so hot it makes it nearly impossible to tell where or how it started, the fire marshal explained.
The fire marshal said she could not say whether the fire was suspicious at this time. She said it was simply too early in the investigation.
The plan for Wednesday morning is to move some of the debris out of the way so investigators can get a better look at the building's interior.
There are around 100 members of the golf club, according to its co-owner.
Some members lost golf clubs in the fire.
