BLACKSBURG - Senate hopeful George Allen doesn't mix words about the economy.
Allen says it's quote "awful."
He also says the nation losing its AAA credit rating is a big disappointment.
We caught up with the Republican candidate at PK's in Blacksburg.
He was there campaigning for a Montgomery County sheriff candidate.
While there, he also shared his plan with voters to improve the economy, if he wins.
"We need to unleash our American energy resources," said Allen. "We need to reduce the taxes on job creating businesses in our country."
He adds, "If people are working and businesses are prospering, then there's more revenue coming in. Yeah, you got to rein in the federal spending and re-invigorate the entrepreneurial spirit of this country."
Allen faces two primary opponents in the Senate race.
There are two Democrats running, including former Virginia Governor Tim Kaine.
