Snow wasn't the only thing causing for a rough commute in our area. A thick layer of fog hovered over Interstate 77 on Fancy Gap Mountain in Carroll County, making it nearly impossible for drivers to see.
Drivers were warned around Fancy Gap, and down by the Virginia/North Carolina state line of patches of freezing fog on the mountain.
"Well it doesn't surprise me. Normally when we get into bad whether, Fancy Gap makes fog out here. It's kind of typical around this time of the year," said Charles Barnhardt.
Off the highway, one plow truck driver found himself battling his truck's brakes. A dump truck contracted by VDOT to clear roads, plowed into Pantry convenience store instead. State Police say the driver had recently had repair work done on the truck.
The driver says he got to the top of Kelly Road, and lost control of his brakes. Police say the truck slid down the hill at around 30 miles an hour.
There were people in the store at the time of the accident, but no one was hurt according to police.

Fancy Gap Mountain can be dangerous for drivers in normal weather, but Tuesday's mix of snow and freezing fog caused even more danger than usual.
When I got to Fancy Gap Tuesday afternoon, I found a dump truck with a plow attached, had lost control and its brakes at the top of Kelly Road, then slid down a hill, and crashed into the Pantry convenience store at 30 MPH.
Luckily, no one was hurt.
I'll have what else I found in the area from the snow and wintry mix, tonight on WSLS at 6:00 p.m.
