Roanoke Fire-EMS says the fire is under control, and contained.

Part of Orange Avenue is still closed between Williamson Road and Kimball Avenue.

Asst. Fire Chief Ralph Tartaglia tells me that some firefighters have gone into the back of the Days Inn.  They are going room to room, putting out small fires.

Other fire crews are still spraying the hotel with water from the outside.

Frefighters expect to still be putting out hot spots for several more hours.

4:39 p.m.

The smoke is dying down at the hotel.

Live updates on the fire tonight on WSLS at 5, 5:30 and 6 p.m.

-----

3:41 p.m.

Roanoke Fire-EMS says the situation has become too dangerous for firefighters to battle the fire from the inside of the hotel.  Crews are in a "defensive" mode, meaning all firefighters have been pulled out of the hotel, and are fighting the fire from the outside.

No one has been hurt.

Orange Avenue between Williamson Road and Kimball Avenue is now closed.

From Ashley Roberts, WSLS reporter on scene

The smoke is growing thicker from the fire.

I've been told that the hotel was being remodeled, and only workers were inside, no guests.

-----

3:04 p.m.

Roanoke City Police say Orange Avenue between Plantation Road and Williamson Road is closed, due to the fire.

-----

2:51 p.m.

WSLS can see heavy smoke coming from near the Days Inn, just past the Roanoke Civic Center, off of Orange Ave.
