- 1/18/01 in Fairfax County. A pedestrian was killed after walking into path of Fairfax County transit bus. The pedestrian didn’t use the crosswalk. Bus driver was not a fault.
- 4/17/01 in Franklin County. A bus passenger fell onto the highway from a family-owned school bus that had been converted into a camper. Bus driver was not at fault.
- 5/16/01 in Harrisonburg. Two pedestrians were struck, one killed, when a Harrisonburg Public Transit bus attempted to make a turn and hit them in a crosswalk. Bus driver was at fault and charged with reckless driving and involuntary manslaughter.
- 12/4/01 in Newport News. A passenger vehicle driver was killed after he struck a Hampton Roads Transit bus that was stopped and loading passengers at the time of the crash. Three other vehicles were involved. The bus driver and seven bus passengers were injured. The bus driver was not at fault.
2002
- 1/29/02 in Fairfax County. A pedestrian was struck and killed by a Fairfax County Transit bus as the bus tried making a turn. The pedestrian was in the crosswalk. Bus driver was at fault and charged with failing to yield to pedestrian.
- 2/3/02 in Richmond. A passenger vehicle driver was killed after striking a Greater Richmond Transit Co. bus, overturning and striking a metal column of a VCU book store on West Broad Street. Bus driver was not at fault.
2003
- 5/06/2003 in Arlington. A pedestrian was struck and killed by a Bethany Limousine & Buses Inc. bus making a turn. Pedestrian was in a crosswalk. Bus driver was at fault.
- 12/21/03 in Henry County. A passenger vehicle driver was killed when her car struck a Freedom Baptist Church bus head-on. On impact, bus went over a guardrail and down a 76-foot hill. Eight bus occupants hurt. Bus driver was not at fault.
2004
- 6/13/04 in Fairfax County. A child pedestrian was killed when he ran between two parked cars and into the path of a Fairfax County transit bus. Victim was run over by rear wheels. Bus was driver not a fault.
- 9/9/04 in Newport News. A passenger vehicle driver was killed when an Eddie’s Bus Service bus struck the driver’s side and came to rest on top of the car, which was stopped at a light. The bus, which was on lease to the Navy at the time, had no steering fluid. The driver reported having trouble steering the bus during a turn. The victim’s family settled with the federal government and the bus company for $3 million to end a lawsuit over the crash.

- 8/16/2005 in Fairfax County. A passenger vehicle driver was killed when he crossed a double-yellow center line and struck a Fairfax Connector transit bus. Bus driver was not at fault.
- 8/26/05 in Pulaski County. A passenger vehicle driver was killed when he pulled into the path of another car and was struck before colliding with a Swift Transportation bus. Bus driver was not at fault.
- 9/9/05 in Virginia Beach. A motorcycle driver cutting in and out of traffic at high speeds was killed after he pulled into the right lane and braked suddenly after seeing a stopped Hampton Roads Transit bus. The motorcyclist rolled underneath the bus. Bus driver was not at fault.
- 10/6/05 in Page County. A passenger vehicle driver was killed when he crossed the center line and struck another vehicle, which skidded into the oncoming lane and collided with a Virginia Regional Transit Association bus. Bus driver was not at fault.
- 10/11/2005 in Fairfax County. A pedestrian was killed after she fell down a steep hill near a bus stop and underneath the front and rear tires of a Washington Metro Area Authority bus, which pulled forward unknowingly. Bus driver was not at fault.
- 10/15/05 in Hampton. A bus passenger was killed after a passenger vehicle driver failed to stop for a red light and collided with a Hampton Roads Transit bus. The bus then veered into a commercial parking lot and struck a third car, which went airborne. That car landed on the hood of a fourth car as the bus rolled onto its side as it struck a curb. A light pole then came down on a fifth vehicle. Bus driver was not at fault.
- 10/23/05 in Madison County. A passenger vehicle driver was killed after his vehicle veered into a median and struck a sign before colliding with another car. The sign broke the windshield of a passing M&Z Transportation bus. The bus driver was not at fault.
2006
- 4/29/06 in Arlington. A Gunther Charters Inc. bus driver was killed after he ran off the interstate and struck a jersey wall and guardrail. The driver, who suffered a medical emergency while driving, was killed when his head struck a concrete abutment after his body partially slumped out the driver’s side window.
- 4/30/06 in Fairfax County. Two car passengers were killed when the car they were riding in ran off the interstate and struck a Better Business Connection bus parked on the shoulder. Bus driver was not at fault.
2007
- 2/2/2007 in Fairfax County. A car passenger was killed when the vehicle she was riding in turned in front of another car and collided with it. The first car then rotated and collided with a Washington Metro Area Transportation Authority bus. Bus driver was not at fault.
- 10/25/07 in Arlington. The driver of a Washington Metro Area Transportation Authority bus that had broken down on an interstate exit ramp was killed when he stepped into the path of a tractor-trailer that was passing the bus on the right.
- 11/9/2007 in Spotsylvania. One of two pedestrians trying to cross the interstate was struck and killed by a Gaines Bus Service bus traveling in the center lane. Second pedestrian pulled first pedestrian to the shoulder. Bus driver was not at fault.
- 12/6/07 in Charlottesville. A passenger vehicle driver was killed when he ran a red light and struck the side of a Charlottesville transit bus traveling north on a green light. Bus driver was not at fault.
2008
- 7/9/2008 in Northampton County. A pedestrian lying partially in the roadway was struck and killed by a Virginia Seagull Travel Bus Inc. Bus driver was not at fault.
- 10/19/08 in Alexandria. A passenger vehicle driver was killed when he ran a red light and was struck by an Alexandria Transit Co. bus that was traveling through the intersection on a green light. Bus driver was not at fault.
2009
- 7/25/09 in Norfolk. Two car passengers were killed when the vehicle they were riding in veered to the left, struck a curb and plowed into a median before striking a tree and catching fire. A part of the vehicle broke off and struck the windshield of a Hampton Roads transit bus. Bus driver was not at fault.
- 8/15/2009 in Richmond. A passenger vehicle driver was killed when she veered to the right curb line and slammed into the rear of a Greater Richmond Transit Co. bus that was stopped in a loading zone. Bus driver was not at fault.
- 9/30/09 in Richmond. A pedestrian walking across the street in a downtown intersection was struck and killed by a Greater Richmond Transit Co. bus making a left turn. Bus driver was at fault and was charged.
- 1/21/09 in Prince William County. A pedestrian attempting to cross the road was struck and killed by a Potomac & Rappahannock transit bus that was turning left on a green light. Bus driver’s view was obstructed by a construction fence. Driver was not at fault.
2010
- 4/15/10 in Prince William County. A pedestrian crossing the street outside a crosswalk and against a red-crossing light was killed by a Florida Trails Inc. bus making a right turn after first stopping in a right-turn lane. The bus driver was not at fault.
- 6/26/10 in Stafford County. A passenger vehicle driver who had illegally stopped on the right shoulder of the interstate was killed after recklessly entering the roadway and striking a tractor-trailer, which collided with a Majestic Tours Inc. bus. The first vehicle then ran off the road, struck a guardrail and caught fire. Bus driver was not at fault.
