Blacksburg Transit to start enhanced Christiansburg explorer route

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Blacksburg Transit and the Town of Christiansburg will launch the newly enhanced Christiansburg Explorer Route on Monday August 1, at 7:45 a.m.  A short networking event will take place at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m., providing an opportunity for attendees to speak with local government officials and share their stories about transit.

The Explorer Route will provide hourly service directly to the New River Valley Mall hub which then connects to Blacksburg Transit routes into Blacksburg. The enhanced route will also provide an hourly connection to and from Roanoke and Salem via the Smart Way stop at the Falling Branch Park and Ride. This same connection can be used to reach Amtrak in Lynchburg and areas outside the region via the Mega Bus.

Blacksburg Transit Director, Rebecca Martin said, “This expansion of the system in Christiansburg and the connections it provides is another vital step in providing regional transportation to the citizens of the New River Valley.”

Other new features of the Explorer Route include:

  • Fare free service on the Explorer  for the entire month of August
  • Hourly service to the New River Valley Mall area
  • Courtesy stops that place riders closer to their destination
  • Hourly service to the Falling Branch Park and Ride via the courtesy stops
  • New stops in the Hubble Lighting and Electric Road area

For more information or to RSVP for the event on August 1, visit www.btransit.org or call (540) 961-1185.
