VEC helping StarTek employees before layoffs

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The Virginia Employment Commission held a town hall meeting tonight for StarTek employees who will soon lose their jobs.

The company announced in May it would be closing its doors and laying off nearly 700 employees.

Since then, a spokeswoman says about 180 workers decided to leave early.

She says many found jobs at other call centers in the area.

For those who are still looking, they received some helpful advice at tonight's meeting.

It was held at Patrick Henry Community College.

They talked with experts about resumes, interviewing techniques and job searches.

Jennifer Stout works at StarTek. She says she plans to go back to school.

"I feel a lot more confident than I did before I came here. I was nervous. I was uncertain and now I feel a lot more confident about what I what to do with my future," said Stout.

A spokeswoman says StarTek will lay off employees the end of July.
