Blacksburg Police say the hurt infant in connection with Wednesday's arrest of a Virginia Tech football player and his girlfriend, suffered from internal head injuries.
Lt. Steve Taylor says the investigation started with the Department of Social Services, who notified police.
Taylor also says the child, who is female, was treated and releaed from Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

A Blacksburg couple have been arrested and charged in connection with a hurt child.
Police tell us officers arrested Xavier Boyce and Olivia Hutchins on Wednesday, March 23rd, after an investigation into injuries that their infant suffered on January 31st, at the couple's home in the 1200 block of University City Boulevard.
Both Boyce and Hutchins have been released on $5,000 unsecured bonds. Their court date is pending.
Boyce is a member of the Virginia Tech football team. He's listed as a 6ft. 4in. tall split-end from Virginia Beach.
Virginia Tech's student athlete conduct policy 1035 lists under sanctions for inappropriate conduct (section 4):
Any student-athlete arrested and charged with a felony, or with a crime involving gambling or game fixing under Virginia law or any other jurisdictional equivalent, shall be suspended automatically, by the Director of Athletics, from practice and playing privileges until the charges are dropped, dismissed or otherwise resolved. The student-athlete may appeal this decision pursuant to the Appeals Procedure found in this Policy on Student-Athlete Conduct.
