One viewer had a question about our coverage of the East Coast Rapist.
Carolyn Farris emailed, "Why doesn't WSLS show an actual picture of this East Coast Rapist instead of a drawing? I know I can't be the only person who wants to see an actual picture of this criminal. Thank you!"
WSLS responds. Carolyn I checked with our producers to get an answer. This is a federal case where there are no cameras in the courtroom, which is why we have to rely on sketches more than we do in local cases. Still, we're looking for a real picture and when we get one, we'll put it on the air.
Another viewer believes our coverage is slanted.
Ralph Nichols wrote, “Where is the story on McCassel? If this had been a Republican you would have been all over it! SHAMFUL BIAS!!!!!!!!”
WSLS responds: as best we could tell, this viewer was referencing a developing scandal in Missouri where Democratic Senator Claire McCaskill is under investigation for issues related to her family’s personal plane and in part the taxes paid on it. While this is a big story in Missouri and inside the Washington Beltway, it’s not a huge story in Virginia, particularly Southwest Virginia where Claire McCaskill is far from a household name.
We heard more complaints this week for our coverage that includes Virginia Tech.
Robert Wright emailed, “I don't understand why WSLS Channel 10 starts of its newscast with a story on what Tech students did today since the weather was nice. Was it only nice around the Tech campus? Then follows up with reactions to Tech not getting into the NCAA tourney. Here is a reaction: Hokie sports philosophy is to avoid consistency. WSLS continues to believe the center of the universe is the campus of Virginia Tech. Let's save important news until 10 minutes into the broadcast.”
And finally, our continued coverage of the Alleghany Highlands, most recently focusing on the county – city merger being debate there, had one viewer emailing in kudos.
Steaven Lindsay wrote, “Just wanted to give you guys a quick note. I want to thank you guys for taking the time to remember your viewer in the highlands. Unlike the other station who seem to have forgotten about us up here. I truly enjoy all your broadcast and watch when I get a chance, if not I hit the web. Keep up the good work!”
