With the spring like weather we were enjoying just a week ago, things have already started to bloom.
As the trees start to come out, the pollen count shoots up and we get the watery eyes and sniffles.
Dr. Dane McBride at the Roanoke Asthma and Allergy Center tells me that now through early may is tree pollen time.
The rain we have had has certainly helped things out. The rain washes the pollen out of the air, but as soon as things start to dry out the pollen count starts to ramp up again. All of that pollen that gets pushed to the ground becomes airborne again.
With the rain though, mold spores rise. We see problems from that after it rains and when the wind blows, picking it up and moving it around.
If you are an allergy sufferer, there are several things you can do make things a little better.
When the weather is nice, you may be tempted to open the windows, but Dr. McBride says that is not the thing to do as it just lets the outdoors come in.
Also, set your car air-conditioner to re-circulate the air instead of pulling outside air in.
Over the counter allergy medications can help as do intranasal steroid sprays. For those you'll need a prescription from your doctor.
